Multi-day festival organizers can apply for provincial funding

Organizers of multi-day festivals can apply for financial help from the New Brunswick government.

The Invitation Festival Fund will provide thousands of dollars to existing and new festivals in the province.

Tourism Tammy Scott-Wallace said the fund will reward groups who are working hard to attract visitors to their communities.

“These multi-day festivals benefit local economies in the short term, but also allow people more shared experiences – with each other and those from further away,” Scott-Wallace said in a news release.

Festival organizers can receive up to $15,000 through the fund, depending on their level of eligible expenses.

New offerings must be ticketed events while existing festivals must show that at least one-quarter of their tickets were bought by people living at least 75 kilometres outside the community.

The deadline to apply is April 28 for festivals taking place April 1 to Sept. 30, and Aug. 18 for festivals happening Oct. 1 to March 31.

Half the funding will be provided once the event is approved. The rest will come after organizers have provided a final report and supporting documentation after the festival.

Officials said a similar incentive program last summer benefitted dozens of new festivals around the province.
