Lunenburg’s Mayor Matt Risser released a statement on Easter Monday indicating he is resigning from his position with the town.
In Risser’s statement, he explained that he is leaving the position to pursue a career opportunity that will require him to live elsewhere.
Risser has served as Lunenburg’s mayor since 2020, prior to which he served as councilor from 2017.
Deputy Mayor Peter Mosher will take over as mayor on an interim basis following Risser’s last day which will be May 6.
Once Risser has vacated his position council will also then begin the process of organizing a by-election to determine the new permanent mayor.
The Town of Lunenburg noted that they consider Risser’s departure a personal matter and will not be providing further details.
