Two Provincial Constables with the Ontario Provincial Police in Kenora have been charged with assault following an investigation by the service’s Professional Standards Unit.

The charges stem from an incident on December 26th, 2022 when the officers responded to a report of an individual assaulting a paramedic.

Upon arrival the assault had ended, but while the officers attempted to arrest the suspect a struggle ensued.

The individual was then taken into custody and was charged with assault and resisting arrest, the latter of the charges was later dropped.

The Professional Standards Unit began its investigation into the incident in January, resulting in one of the officers being suspended with pay, while the other was placed on modified duties.

On April 5th, charges were formally laid against the two officers who have been with the OPP for 22 and 44 months respectively.

They have been suspended with pay pending the outcome of the court process.

Both are expected to appear in court on May 4th.
