Lunenburg County and the Municipality of the District of Chester will soon receive funding to support their growing populations, thanks to an investment from the Houston Government.

Lunenburg MLA Susan Corkum-Greek announced today that the Town of Lunenburg will receive $375,867, the Town of Mahone Bay will receive $271,071, and the Municipality of the District of Lunenburg will receive $1,136,943. The funding can be used for projects such as services, accessibility, housing, and transportation improvements. Municipalities will have until March 31, 2025, to spend the funding and demonstrate its positive impact on the community.

The investment is part of the Sustainable Services Growth Fund (SSGF), which provides eligible municipalities with capital infrastructure needs. In total, the SSGF will invest $31.9 million in Nova Scotia communities.

Chester-St. Margaret’s MLA Danielle Barkhouse also announced today that the Municipality of the District of Chester will receive $672,021 from the SSGF. This funding can also be used for a variety of community improvements.

“By upgrading our towns and villages, we can create more sustainable, resilient, and equitable communities that benefit everyone,” said MLA Barkhouse. “This investment is a crucial step towards building a brighter future for all of us.”

MLA Corkum-Greek added, “This investment in municipal infrastructure represents a critical step towards creating more livable, sustainable, and prosperous communities for all. I am proud to support this investment, and I believe it will help build a better future for current and future generations.”
