Remembrance Day Ceremonies at the Yarmouth Cenotaph.

‘Battle of Vimy Ridge’ to be commemorated Easter Sunday

A sombre ceremony this Easter Sunday in Yarmouth.

The annual Vimy Ridge Commemoration will be held at 10:30 a.m. at the cenotaph downtown.

Andre Boudreau with the Wedgeport Legion says it will be a remembrance service.

“Vimy Ridge is when Canada became of age. Many different nationalities, French and English, all came together to take Vimy Ridge. It was a Canadian-led battle,” said Boudreau.

Eighteen soldiers from our area died in the battle during World War I.

He says he’s been to Vimy Ridge to see the monument.

“Over 11,000 names of Canadians that have no known graves from the war are on it. To see that monument in person, it was overwhelming.”

Boudreau says local cadet corps and the local reserve unit will be in attendance Sunday, along with Legion members.
