The RCMP Major Crime Unit is investigating after a manager at Casino New Brunswick was assaulted on the job last month and has since died.

Corporal Hans Ouellette said RCMP were called to the casino on March 4 around 12:50 a.m.

“A 56-year-old man from Moncton was transported to hospital with what were believed to be serious injuries at that time. A 50-year-old man from Riverview was arrested at the scene. He was later released pending a future court appearance,” noted Ouellette.

“On March 28, the 56-year-old man died in hospital as a result of his injuries.”

Multiple media outlets have identified the victim as Rodney Frenette.

According to his obituary, Frenette enjoyed a long career in the gaming industry and was the food and beverages manager at Casino New Brunswick for the last seven years.

“He loved his job and he cherished his wife and daughter and in turn, he was loved by many who will miss him dearly,” read the obituary.

Casino New Brunswick announced it will hold a celebration of life for a beloved team member on Wednesday from 2-4 p.m. and the facility will delay its opening to allow fellow employees to attend.
