Messy weather is on the way for this week with a mixture of freezing rain, ice pellets, snow and rain.

A freezing rain warning was issued late Tuesday afternoon for southwestern New Brunswick.

That includes Saint John, the Kennebecasis Valley, Sussex, Charlotte County, Fredericton and the Grand Lake region.

Precipitation is expected to begin as snow or ice pellets Wednesday evening before transitioning to a “prolonged” period of freezing rain, said Environment Canada.

“Freezing rain is expected to end Thursday morning as precipitation tapers while temperatures rise above zero,” said the warning.

Southeastern New Brunswick, including Greater Moncton, was under a special weather statement but it ended Tuesday afternoon.

Those areas will see five to 10 centimetres of snow and ice pellets Wednesday night with a risk of freezing rain overnight. Any freezing rain on Thursday will change to rain as the temperature rises to 5°C.
