A dominant win from the Yarmouth Mariners to open the MHL Eastlink South Division final.

They beat the Truro Bearcats 7-1 Saturday night in front of a near sold-out crowd at Mariners Centre.

Defenseman Franco Canevari led the way with a goal and three assists.

The Minnesota native says it was special to have a game like that in front of his parents.

“They were making their first visit to Yarmouth. They’re from Argentina but live in Minnesota now. Had a little extra motivation tonight, but I think everyone pulled their weight,” said Canevari.

The Bearcats scored one minute in, but Yarmouth had the next seven, out-shooting them 41-22.

Other goals were scored by Tamy Ettaqi, Patrick Hurley, Keefe Marshall, Michael Marquez, Ryan Semple and Alex Roode.

Joey Lovullo was solid in net with 21 saves.

The Mariners remain undefeated in the playoffs at 5-0.

Game 2 goes tonight in Truro, with Game 3 back in Yarmouth on Wednesday night.
