Hockey fans in our province have been waiting 15 years for this matchup.

The Halifax Mooseheads host the Cape Breton Eagles in Game 1 of their QMJHL first round series tonight.

Halifax is heavily favoured in this edition of ‘The Battle of Nova Scotia,’ as they finished with 20 more wins than the Eagles.

Local hockey commentator Logan Delaney says this edition of the Mooseheads is special.

“There were three 50-goal scorers on Halifax this year (Jordan Dumais, Josh Lawrence, Alex Doucet.) That hasn’t happened since 1993 in this league. It’s bananas to even think about,” said Delaney.

He says the Eagles are an up and coming team, and have star players like Ivan Ivan at forward and Nicolas Ruccia in goal that can make a difference.

Delaney pointed to the playoffs coming down to who is playing their best hockey.

“The best team never wins, it’s whoever is playing their best that usually takes it. In Junior hockey, anything can happen and if Cape Breton plays their best hockey, they have a shot.”

He says this Mooseheads team is special, and it reminds him of the 2019 team that went to the Memorial Cup final.

Game 2 goes tomorrow night, then the series shifts to Sydney on Tuesday and Wednesday.
