Get ready for more travel delays and headaches on Harbour Bridge in Saint John.

Work on a massive multi-year rehabilitation project is set to resume this weekend.

The bridge will be down to one lane of traffic in each direction starting Sunday, April 2.

Lane reductions are scheduled to continue until Nov. 30, according to the Department of Transportation and Infrastructure.

The four-phase project began in 2021 and is expected to continue through 2026. It has a total price tag of $26.4 million.

Work includes removing installing high-performance waterproofing and a new asphalt wearing surface, replacing some expansion joints and eliminating others by installing continuous link slabs, and replacing bearings.

In February, the federal government announced up to $7.3 million for the remaining two phases of work.

The province is also spending up to $7.7 million for the remaining phases for a total investment of $15 million.

“As the work that goes on the Harbour Bridge happens, it’s not always convenient but it’s so necessary and it’s vital to the life of the bridge,” Saint John Lancaster MLA Dorothy Shephard said during the announcement.
