Queens RCMP Investigating wigwam vandalism

On March 27, 2023, the Queens District RCMP responded to a report of vandalism to a wigwam at  Dr. John C. Wickwire Academy on Old Port Mouton Rd. in Liverpool. According to the RCMP, someone removed the bark from the structure between March 24 and 27.

The incident is being treated as hate-motivated, and the investigation is ongoing.

The wigwam is an outdoor education structure that provides an opportunity for students to learn about Indigenous culture and history. The vandalism has caused significant damage to the structure and has disrupted the learning opportunities for students.

In a statement, the Queens District RCMP said, “This incident is unacceptable and has no place in our community. We take all incidents of hate-motivated crimes seriously and are committed to holding those responsible accountable for their actions.”

The RCMP is urging anyone with information on this incident to come forward and contact the Queens District RCMP at 902-354-5721. They also encourage anyone who may have witnessed any suspicious activity in the area to come forward.
