Property crime stats show early rise in 2022

OPP are reporting an increase in property crime in the Fort Frances area.

It is up 26 per cent over last year at this time.

It is in part due to a rise in the number of thefts and mischiefs.

OPP say they have been 38 thefts in January and February compared to 32 in the same months last year.

The number of mischiefs reported to police doubled to 14 from 7 last year.

Violent crime stats show a rise of just one incident over 2022.

Incidents of assaults are down just under 22 per cent.

There have also been four drug cases this year, compared to six in the first two months of last year.

On the roads, the number of traffic accidents is lower than last year.

OPP responded to 32 crashes in the first two months of the year.

There were 49 during the same period last year.

Four accidents this year have resulted in injuries compared to two last January and February.
