The Kenora U18 Thistles scored an upset in game one of the Northwest Branch Playdowns against the Thunder Bay Kings.

The Thistles beat the Kings 5-4 Friday night in the best-of-three series.

Kenora trailed 2-0 after the first period, and 3-2 after the second.

Game two of the series goes tonight at 7:00 at the Moncrief Construction Sports Center (Kenora Rec. Center).

The winner of the series will advance to the Telus Western Regional Championships.

In the SIJHL playoffs Friday night, the Thunder Bay North Stars took a commanding 2-0 lead against the Red Lake Miners with a 4-3 win.

Game three will shift back to Red Lake Monday night.

The series between the Sioux Lookout Bombers and the Wisconsin Lumberjacks started last night with the Bombers taking game one 5-3.

Game two will go tonight at the Sioux Lookout Memorial Arena.

Also tonight will be game two between the Dryden GM Ice Dogs and the Fort Frances Lakers.

The Ice Dogs won game one Thursday night 7-4.

 

Jeff Gustafson has the first day lead the the Bassmaster Classic on the Tennessee River.

Gussy hauled in 18.8 pounds of bass on day 1, 1.1 pounds up on second place.

The Tennessee River was the site of Gustafson’s only victory in the Bassmaster Elite circuit in 2021.
