Analysis of budget spending points to population growth

Rising immigration is playing a factor in Nova Scotia’s increased spending.

According to an analysis by Desjardins, the new budget maintains prior fiscal plans, and doesn’t really change the timeline on balancing the books.

They say some are worried about increased spending, but there are compelling arguments for the strategy.

Desjardins says with our province’s rapidly growing and aging population, pressure to maintain service like healthcare will continue.

They say the challenge will be delivering on the targets in an uncertain economic climate.
