Eight people have been arrested as part of an ongoing drug investigation in Saint John, according to police.

Investigators executed seven search warrants at various locations in the city on Wednesday.

Officers seized an estimated $116,000 worth of drugs, including suspected cocaine, crack cocaine, magic mushrooms, hydromorphone and oxycodone.

They also seized a prohibited .32 calibre handgun, ammunition, contraband cigarettes, two snowmobiles, five dirt bikes, two motorcycles, drug paraphernalia, and about $41,500 in cash.

Three men aged 35, 38 and 40 were held in custody and appeared in court on Thursday on charges of possession for the purposes of trafficking cocaine and possession of property obtained by crime.

The 35-year-old was also charged with unauthorized possession of a prohibited firearm and unsafe storage of a firearm, while the 40-year-old faces a charge of possession of ammunition contrary to a prohibition order.

All three were remanded into custody and are scheduled to return to court on Monday for bail hearings.

Five others arrested for drug and weapons related offences were released from custody with a promise to appear in court on June 15.
