An electric win for the Yarmouth Mariners.
They defeated the Pictou County Crushers 5-3 in a back-and-forth contest Tuesday night at Mariners Centre to take a 3-0 lead in their first round series.
Reilly Mayne was the hero with four goals, Keefe Marshall had the game winner mid-way through the third period, Joey Lovullo got the win in goal.
Mayne says he was feeling great.
“I’m not sure if it was luck or a great nap before the game that made the difference, but it was a good night for sure. We had a lot of fun beating them,” says Mayne.
Yarmouth native Jared Pitman had two assists on Mayne’s line and was named second star.
Mayne had lots of praise for Pitman, the NS U18 Major League MVP, who has been called up for the playoffs.
“I gotta say, the kid (Pitman) is 16, and he’s got a great IQ on the ice and quick feet. I enjoy playing with him, and I’m saying that as a veteran player in the playoffs, it’s awesome.”
