The wait is over for fans of the Yarmouth Mariners.

They start MHL Cup playoff run tonight at home in Game 1 of their first round series against the Pictou County Crushers.

The Mariners won all eight meetings between the clubs this year, including three in the final week of the regular season.

Head Coach and GM Laurie Barron says the Crushers will bring it.

“They’re a very good hockey club and have a great young team. They’ve got two lines as good as anybody, and you can’t play ‘run and gun’ with them. We’ll need to be at our best,” said Barron.

Yarmouth had their best regular season in team history, winning 41 out of 52 games.

Game 2 will take place Sunday night in New Glasgow, with Game 3 back in Yarmouth on Tuesday.

The organizations have not had a playoff series against each other since the division final in 2011, won by Pictou County in six games.

Valley takes on Truro in the other Eastlink Division semifinal, that starts Sunday in Truro.

In the Eastlink North Division, Edmundston plays Miramichi and Campbellton will take on Summerside.
