The community of Barrington will be getting a new recreation centre, with an announcement this morning from the province that they are investing over $14 million in recreation projects around the province including $6 million for the facility in Barrington.

The Barrington Recreation Centre in Shelburne County will use the funding to replace its current facility with a new center that will be linked to the arena, featuring an indoor track and community spaces.

The École secondaire de Par-en-Bas in Tusket, Yarmouth County will also receive $2 million to construct a state-of-the-art track facility. The facility will host school track and field events and community events, attracting individuals from along the South Shore.

Nolan Young, MLA for Shelburne, stated, “Recreational facilities play a significant role in strengthening our communities and bringing people together to be active.” Investing in the Barrington Recreation Centre and the track facility in Tusket will provide communities with upgraded infrastructure for recreational programming for years to come.

Eddie Nickerson, the Warden for the Municipality of Barrington, stated, “We are extremely excited for this provincial funding to assist us in replacing our recreation building. This facility is at the heart of our recreation complex and is an important piece of infrastructure for our community.” Danny Muise, Warden for the Municipality of Argyle, added, “The municipality strongly supports the wellness and active living of our residents. This track and field upgrade will allow for more organizations to access barrier-free, a state-of-the-art facility. We couldn’t be more excited for our community.”
