A new report says the victims of sexual assault from a fomer King’s College professor deserve an apology.

Wayne John Hankey was a long-time professor at the University and was charged of sexually assaulting three male victims between 1977-88.

King’s says after an internal inquiry, Hankey was put on a one-year suspension in 1991 but returned to teaching afterwards.

Hankey died a month before the first trial was to begin, in 2022, and had pleaded not guilty.

A third-party review says King’s is accountable, that they should seek out further victims and make amends.

The University says they have an existing support network for anyone impacted and are introducing other support, to address the distinct community needs in reaction to the final report.

Hankey retired from teaching in 2015 and died at the age of 77.
