Fort Frances is taking another step to promote itself in Minnesota.

Members of the Rainy River Future Development Corporation were at the Duluth Sports Show last month with Ontario Sunset Country.

They used the opportunity to promote Fort Frances as the supply centre for anglers coming to fish in northwestern Ontario.

Executive Director Geoff Gillon says they interacted with a lot of people

“Quite a few of those people showed interest in Canada now that the border is open,” says Gillon.

Gillon says they were able to attend through the tax collected on local hotel and motel room rentals.

Fort Frances hasn’t had a presence at a sports show for some time.

Gillon says the municipal accommodation tax is changing that.

“Unlike years past, they now have funds to do what they want which is a real positive for tourism on a go-forward basis.”

Part of the tax is dedicated to tourism promotion.

The MAT committee is now evaluating to determine future appearances.
