The speeds on Scott Street in Fort Frances come up for discussion tonight.

Town council receives the recommendation to monitor traffic before deciding if a lower speed is warranted.

It comes from the town’s Traffic Advisory Committee in response to a request a year ago from the Downtown Business Improvement Association.

The BIA wrote council, expressing concern with the reported near misses between vehicles and pedestrians trying to cross the street.

If approved, it would mean speed signs being posted to collect that data.

Council will also discuss tonight the advisory committee’s recommendations for new sidewalks near the proposed splash park.

The committee supports one along the north side of King’s Highway from First Street to Webster Avenue and one on Webster from Third Street West to King’s Highway.

Both would connect to existing sidewalks, drawing pedestrians to a proposed crosswalk near Legion Park, the planned site of the splash park.

If approved by council, both projects would be considered in the 2024 capital budget.
