Saint John police looking for witnesses to stabbing in uptown

A stabbing in Uptown Saint John is under investigation by the Major Crime Unit and Forensic Services.

Saint John Police says it reportedly happened at around 12:50am Saturday morning on Princess Street.

Officers found a 20-year-old man lying on the sidewalk near Water Street.

He was taken to hospital with serious injuries.

After speaking with witnesses, police arrested a 19-year-old man in a nearby bar.

The man has been charged with aggravated assault, but was released from custody on an undertaking to appear in court on June 13, 2023.

Police believe there were at least two other suspects involved in the incident.

Suspect #1 is believed to be a Caucasian man, 20-30 years of age, slim build, wearing a dark ball cap with a white logo on the front and long hair curling at the back, black sweatshirt, light jeans, black and white sneakers.

Suspect #2 is also believed to be a Caucasian man, 20-30 years of age, slim build, taller than suspect #1, closely cropped beard, red ball cap with logo, light jeans sagging significantly below the waist, black sweatshirt with a white logo, and white sneakers. Suspect #2 was seen with another man who was wearing rubber boots.

Many others were reportedly in the area at the time the incident.

Investigators would like to hear from anyone who may have photographs or video of the incident.
