RCMP issued a correction this afternoon noting that the incident took place on the morning of March 7, not March 8 as they had earlier reported.

Halifax District RCMP have charged a 58-year-old man following a sexual assault and break-in incident in Terence Bay early this morning.

At around 6 a.m., a woman called 911 to report that a man she knew had broken into her home on Harrie Drive and sexually assaulted her while she was sleeping. RCMP officers were quick to respond and found the suspect at a nearby residence, where he was safely taken into custody.

According to the victim, she woke up to find the man standing next to her bed and touching her. She locked herself in the bathroom, but the man eventually broke in before she was able to escape and call for help.

The suspect has been identified as a resident of Terence Bay and has been charged with sexual assault, break and enter, and mischief. He was held in custody and is expected to appear in Halifax Provincial Court later today.

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact the Halifax District RCMP or Crime Stoppers.
