8 charged in multi jurisdictional drug bust

A drug trafficking operation with ties to the Greater Toronto Area and Thunder Bay, has been broken up following an investigation by the Provincial Joint Forces Guns and Gangs Enforcement Team.

Warrants were executed at homes, storage lockers and vehicles in Thunder Bay, Toronto, Oshawa, and Bowmanville on March 2nd.

Officers seized approximately six kilograms of suspected cocaine, a quantity of fentanyl, two vehicles and about $100,000 in cash.

The combined potential street value of the drugs, according to police, is $650,000.

Officers with the OPP’s Biker Enforcement Unit, Provincial Weapons Enforcement Unit, Organized Crime Tow Industry Project, the Thunder Bay Police Service, and the Toronto and Durham Region Police Services assisted in the warrants and the subsequent arrests.

A 35 year old Thunder Bay man faces several charges:

  • Conspiracy to commit an indictable offence (trafficking cocaine)
  • Trafficking a Schedule 1 substance – cocaine – five counts
  • Possession of a Schedule 1 substance for the purpose of trafficking – five counts

Meanwhile a 53 year old city man faces the charges of:

  • Conspiracy to commit an indictable offence (trafficking cocaine)
  • Trafficking a Schedule 1 substance – cocaine
  • Possession of a Schedule 1 substance for the purpose of trafficking

The remaining accused vary in age from 24 to 29 and are from Oshawa and Toronto.

All of the accused have appeared in court and have been released, after agreeing to appear before the court at a later date.
