You’ll have to slow down a bit when approaching downtown Yarmouth.

The town has lowered the speed limit in the area from 50 kilometres an hour to 30.

Mayor Pam Mood says it’s all about safety.

“There’s a lot of congestion, it’s a very busy area of the town. Some folks think if it’s 50, they can go 50. Signs just needed to be posted and changed for safety, and to protect people,” said Mayor Mood.

New signage was installed over the weekend between Grand and Forest streets.

“The vast majority of folks understand that when it’s busy, you need to slow down in the downtown core, but this is needed for those that don’t,” added the Mayor.

Council brought it to the traffic authority, who agreed to make the change.
