Liberals say new mental health program a ‘band-aid’ fix

The Liberals are slamming the new mental health program that launched last week.

The Houston government announcement a new service that provides one, free, hour-long session with a registered therapist. Over the phone or online in select locations.

The Liberals say, however, one hour is not enough, and if anyone needs more time with a registered therapist, they will be added to waitlist with a wait time already over 100 days.

An hour is not enough time to properly address the issues the program aims to serve,” says Rafah DiCostanzo, shadow minister for the Office of Mental Health and Addictions. “Anyone who knows about or has received mental health support by talking to a psychologist knows that it often takes closer to five or more sessions to begin to make any tangible progress. The first hour is fundamental but will lose some of its value if it cannot
be continued.”

With a $2.3 million dollar price tag, DiConstanzo says it’s a band aid fix with no real value to Nova Scotians.
