Trudeau Announces Further Support For Ukraine On Anniversary Of Invasion

Top officials from Canada’s government including the Prime Minister and Defense Minister announced further support for Ukraine on Friday at an event marking the one-year anniversary of Russia’s illegal invasion hosted at Fort York in Toronto.

Prime Minister Trudeau announced that Canada will be sending another four Leopard 2 tanks to support Ukraine, growing Canada’s contribution to eight tanks in total. He also announced sanctions will be imposed on over 150 individuals and entities connected to the Russian war effort.

Defense Minister Anita Anand said Canada has sent over $1 billion dollars in military equipment and assets in support of Ukraine already, which include rocket launchers, armored vehicles, munitions, drones, and more.

In addition to the military equipment, Canada has sent nearly $4 billion in various forms of aid.

The Prime Minister will attend a vigil for the victims of the ongoing conflict in Ukraine on Friday night.
