Thunder Bay Police Deputy Chief Ryan Hughes has been reinstated following a year long investigation by an external police service, stemming from a complaint.

The investigation found all but two of the allegations were unsubstantiated.

However, the investigation did find that Hughes had breaches of confidentiality, when improperly disclosed information to senior officers and a Deputy Chief with another police service.

A release from the Thunder Bay Police Services Board states “The Board has reviewed the findings and taken appropriate corrective action by way of Informal Resolution.”

Hughes has accepted both the review and the informal resolution and as a result the Board has rescinded his suspension.

He will return to active service effective February 27th, and a return to work plan to ensure his seamless re-integration into the service is being finalized.
