Moncton City Councillors got an overview of the final design for a new ‘All Wheels Park’ which will be built next to YMCA North End on Twin Oaks Drive.

The park is being designed for users of skateboards, BMX bicycles and scooters.

Construction is slated to begin this spring and it should be finished by the end of the year.

Lead architect Bill Gurney from New Line Skate told council that understanding the location was important.

“By creating a design that will be complementary to that site location is a very integral part of the work that we do, along with the consultations with the public and stakeholders along the way.”

New Line Skate was the company chosen through an RFP process to design and build the park.

The city hosted two rounds of public consultations last year.

“We had the in-person workshop in August that was accompanied by an online survey. We had a second in-person workshop in October which was also accompanied by an online survey,” noted Gurney.

A city staff report indicated $700,000 was approved in previous capital budgets for youth amenities and strategies and another $50,000 would need to be added in 2024.

City council entered into a partnership with the YMCA to lease the land for the skate park.
