NOHFC to Meet in Fort Frances

By Randy Thoms Feb 17, 2023 | 4:21 PM

Fort Frances has been selected to host a meeting of the Northern Ontario Heritage Fund board of directors.

It will happen this summer.

Northern Development Minister and chair of the NOHFC Chair Greg Rickford suggested the visit.

“I made the decision early this year to pitch to the board that Fort Frances would be a great place to go see, a town in recovery, with a lot of hope and a great future, and showcase some of the projects that we’re working on and try to understand some of the opportunities moving forward,” says Rickford.

Rickford says the visit will include a tour of the Rainy River District and area projects aided by the Heritage Fund.

“I think it’s really important that they see small towns, big towns, small cities, big cities, and all of them in between. We’ll do a tour of the whole district, and they’ll get a chance to see what we do in the townships and have a little fun, meet the community and sit down with leadership and talk about what we can do moving forward.”

Four board members are from northwestern Ontario, including Kim Cornell of Cornell farms in LaVallee Township.

The board has never met in Fort Frances since Rickford has been the Northern Development Minister.
