Housing Benefit Expands To Include Single Individuals

By Brad Perry Feb 17, 2023 | 10:30 AM

More working New Brunswickers are now eligible for the Canada-New Brunswick Housing Benefit program.

The program has been expanded to include single people living alone who make between $12,500 and $50,000.

Officials say an estimated 10,000 more New Brunswickers are now eligible to receive funding from the benefit.

The program was launched back in June 2021 to provide short-term funding to help make ends meet.

It was originally designed to benefit families with employment incomes from $14,000 to $38,000.

Officials then expanded the employment income eligibility to between $12,500 and $50,000 before now including single people living alone.

As of Jan. 31, the province says 1,255 households have been approved, which benefits about 4,400 people. The program aims to support about 6,700 households over a period of seven years.

More details about the program and application process can be found online.
