Nova Scotia Health See’s No Recent Increase in Gastrointestinal Illnesses

Different regions of Canada have been reporting an increase in norovirus cases.

A gastrointestinal disease that is commonly known as the stomach flu. It is usually spread through bodily fluids of an infected person, contaminated food and water, and contaminated surfaces.

Nova Scotia Health Investigator Colin Murphy says the province has not seen an increase in GI illnesses in congregated settings such as schools or daycares.

There is a possibly that the province could see an increase in illnesses during school breaks with more people travelling and spreading communicable diseases.

There are ways to prevent or reduce the spread of norovirus.
