Man Charged After Stealing Credit Cards From Halifax Home and Using Them

A man has been charged after breaking into a home and using the owners’ credit cards.

Police received a report Sunday morning just before 10:30am that the night before a home on the 5500 block of North St was broken into.

The suspect broke into home, stole the owner’s wallet and ID’s, then made purchases with the credit cards.

About an hour later, police heard of a man checking doors on the street.

Officers chased the man on foot and, the 37-year-old man was arrested a short time later.

Stolen credit cards and a knife were seized.

The accused is facing several charges:

Break and enter
Fraud under $5,000
Using and possessing stolen credit cards x 4
Possession of weapon dangerous to the public peace
Resisting arrest
Failing to comply with condition of a court order x 4

He is also facing charges in relation to a theft from a motor vehicle on Brunswick Street in Halifax that occurred on February 11 where a purse containing identification and credit cards was stolen. He is being charged with two counts of using and possessing stolen credit cards and one count of fraud under $5,000.

He was scheduled to appear in court yesterday.
