The Municipality of the County of Antigonish has made a generous monetary donation, as part of their Community Partnership Grants Program. A cheque of $20,000 was presented to North Nova SPCA Campaign Chair Marsha Sobey by Warden Owen McCarron at the Municipal Office Yesterday. The SPCA works to protect domestic animals from abuse and helps them find a new home. The municipality chose to make this donation to help homeless and stray animals in need of a home in the community.

Liz LeClair, the executive director of advancement for the organization says this funding will go towards the construction of their new facility in Stellarton’s business park and they are happy to receive the donation. This new facility will replace their current building that is in bad shape and not fit to be used.

The organization is hoping to raise $2.5 Million dollars to cover the construction costs. The ground broke on the project last month and the new building will have a shelter, a veterinary hospital, and thrift store, and animal enforcement office, and more programming space.

The new SPCA site in Stellarton, will not only serve Pictou County. It will also provide service to those living in Antigonish and Guysborough Counties and the Town of Port Hawkesbury.

There is not set date of completion for the project.
