The province is supporting work to recruit and retain healthcare professionals in the Antigonish area through The Community Navigation and Physicians Retention Services Association.

The association is a partnership between the Town and County of Antigonish and the St Martha’s Regional Hospital Foundation. They will receive funding to support activities such as the creation of new healthcare professional welcome packages. The $100,000 investment will come from The Office of Healthcare Professionals’ Recruitment Community Fund.

“Everyone of us plays an important role in bringing healthcare professionals to our communities and keeping them” says Michelle Thompson, Minister responsible for the Office of Healthcare Professionals Recruitment. “These three groups have stepped up and a broad group of people from across their community are leading the work to sell their community to healthcare workers. I applaud them for that. As their proposal said, we are all in this together.”

Meghan Macgillivary Case from the St Martha’s Regional Hospital Foundation says they are grateful to receive the funding and it will allow them to continue to provide a supportive and welcoming environment for healthcare workers and their families.

The $2 Million fund from the province is part of their strategic plan to improve healthcare and a total of 28 groups across the province applied by the December 19th deadline.
