Illegal Fishing Results In Fines

By Tim Davidson Feb 10, 2023 | 2:37 PM

Anglers are warned to only catch their limits in northwestern Ontario.

This comes as the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry has laid $3,100 in fines and a one-year fishing license suspension for three Winnipeg anglers who were out on the Winnipeg River in September.

The Ministry says conservation officers were conducting a patrol near Caribou Falls, north of Kenora, and observed a group of people camping.

During the officers’ visit, it was determined the group had been angling on the Winnipeg River and one of the three anglers had nine illegally sized walleye in their possession and they did not have a valid license.

The first angler plead guilty to possessing fish of a prohibited size, was fined $2,700 and was suspended from fishing in Ontario for one year.

The two other anglers saw $200 fines for fishing without a license.
