A group working to keep health care workers in Lunenburg and Queens will see some new funds to help pay for fun programs in the community.
Roughly $35,000 will go to the South Shore Multicultural Association to fund day trips to the beach, canoeing, cooking classes, nature walks and biking.
Queens MLA Kim Masland believes creating a connection to the community is key for recruitment and retention of health care staff.
The money is coming from the government’s new community fund to support healthcare workers and there is $2-million available.
“Participation in recreational and leisure activities is a wonderful way for newcomers and their families to have fun, make meaningful connections, and settle into their new communities,” said Anne Fownes, Executive Director, South Shore Multicultural Association. “We are thrilled to be able to offer these opportunities to new healthcare professionals on the South Shore.”
A total of 28 groups across our province applied and other successful applicants will be notified in the coming weeks.
The deadline to apply was December 19.
