City Ready To Pass Capital Budget

By Tim Davidson Feb 9, 2023 | 11:36 AM

Kenora City council has put the finishing touches on the 2023 capital budget.

It comes in at about $16 million.

Mayor Andrew Poirier says the are allocating an extra $1.2 million in infrastructure funding from the
province towards their roads budget.

“Our amounts are back up in excess of  two years ago on the municipal paving,” Poirier says followed Tuesday’s Committee of the Whole meeting.

“I think people heard loud and clear, we have issues with streets…our roads.  We can’t do it all in one year, but we’ve beefed that budget up.”

Poirier adds that they took more time than usual to go over the capital spending plan.

“A large majority (of council), it was their first time that they went through this exercise so they had a lot of questions, which is good because that’s how you learn.   So we took our time going to go through it.  Probably took more time than we normally would on capital, but we have an aggressive program.”

City council had three meetings last week to line by line over the Capital Budget for 2023 and will pass it at their open meeting next Wednesday night.
