Churchill Praises Federal Healthcare Funding, Calls For Spending On Front Lines

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is pitching a $196-billion health care plan over the next 10 years.

Roughly $46-billion will be entirely new money and also includes a five per cent increase in annual transfers.

Nova Scotia’s Liberal leader says it’s good news.

Zach Churchill says it’s going to be about how it’s spent.

“We really have to see the Houston government put more money on the front lines of healthcare, and less on the pilot projects, which I think are more about PR than making a difference in health,” says Churchill.

He says our biggest issue in healthcare is labour, and we have 80 percent vacancy rates in some areas.

Churchill says Newfoundland Premier Andrew Furey pushed the feds to pay the province based on their needs, and Premier Houston needs to push for that here.
