A charitable group in Yarmouth made sure hot meals were served during last weekend’s record cold weather.
Every Saturday, the Acts of Kindness’ Society provides meals outside the Rose of Sharon Assembly on East Street from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m.
Last weekend, they cancelled the meals because of the weather, but group members decided to take food to those in need.
Founder Mike Wedge says they delivered over 200 meals.
“It was probably one of the greatest experiences of my life, it was wonderful. We took food to so many that were in need,” says Wedge.
Wedge started Humankind NS during the pandemic, a group of humanitarians in the area.
He says the community always steps up.
“Every time, this town just knocks it out of the park. We also had a family of nine with no oil, and within two hours we had $1,500 donated. It’s just incredible,” says Wedge.
Humankind also helped a homeless man find shelter last month in Yarmouth.
The Acts of Kindness society is renovating the church so that they can serve more meals inside.
Anyone that wants to make a donation can email aoksociety@gmail.com
Wedge says their goal is to end hunger in Yarmouth.
