Extreme Cold Expected All Week

By Randy Thoms Jan 30, 2023 | 11:57 AM

The Borderland Region remains under an extreme cold warning.

We can expect wind chill values near minus 30 and minus 40 C for today and possibly for the rest of the week.

That could result in frostbite developing within minutes on exposed skin, so make sure to bundle up before going outside.

Young children, older adults, people with chronic illnesses, people working or exercising outdoors, and those without proper shelter are at the greatest risk from the cold.

Watch for cold-related symptoms: shortness of breath, chest pain, muscle pain and weakness, numbness and colour change in fingers and toes.

The weather is also causing local roads to be very slick, especially at intersections.

Be sure to adjust your speed and give plenty of distance from the vehicle ahead of you.

If it’s too cold for you to stay outside, it’s too cold for your pet to stay outside.
