Police remain on the scene of the city's second homicide in as many weeks on Sunday January 29th, 2023

The second murder in as many weekends has been reported by Thunder Bay Police.

Thunder Bay Police were called to McKenzie Street Saturday Jan. 28 after they got reports of a seriously injured man around 4pm.

The 33 year old victim was taken to the regional hospital by paramedics for what looked like a severe assault, but he was later pronounced deceased at the hospital.

The suspect was quickly identified by officers, located and arrested.

Matthew James Scavarelli, a 24 year old Thunder Bay man, is charged with Second Degree Murder.

The victim was 33 year old Cody Young who was also from the city.

Police continue to hold the scene and a post-mortem examination is pending.

The investigation remains ongoing.
