Fire At Prime’s Marshalltown Market In Digby County

By Kevin Northup Jan 27, 2023 | 12:09 PM

A fire damaged a business in Digby County overnight.

Firefighters were called to Prime’s Marshalltown Market around 1:30 a.m. for a commercial smoke alarm.

Digby Fire Chief Robert Morgan says they realized part of the building was on fire when they arrived.

“Most of the damage was confined to the front of the building. It did burn through in one area, but did not do much damage inside,” says Morgan.

Morgan says it’s possible it was an electrical fire.

“That’s the possible cause. We got back to the fire station around 4 a.m, and we left it in the hands of RCMP who remained on site until they got a hold of the owners.”

He says departments from Bear River, Smith’s Cove and Brighton/Barton also responded.

In a post on social media, the market says they are closed until further notice.
