Mixed Results for Area Curlers

Stratton’s Jackie McCormick and her brother Trevor Bonot won their opening games on Wednesday at the Northern Ontario curling championships in Kenora.

McCormick skipped her rink to a 10-5 win over Sudbury’s Bella Croisier in her opener on the women’s side.

They face Krysta Burns of Sudbury, who leads the field with Thunder Bay’s Krista McCarville at 2-0.

Hailey Beaudry of Fort Frances lost both of her first day games to McCarville and Burns.

On the men’s side, Trevor Bonot’s rink won 8-1 over Thunder Bay’s Brian Adams junior in the triple knockout format.

The Dallas Burgess rink of Thunder Bay, with Owen Riches of Fort Frances playing lead, lost their first game to Kenora’s Joshua Szajewski.

Play resumes today.

The Fort Frances Lakers fell 4-1 to the Thunder Bay North Stars last night in Thunder Bay.

The Lakers have now lost 14 straight, seven on the road.

Connor O’Brien scored the Lakers’ only goal of the game.

Fort Frances was outshot 61-30.
