The group Canadian Parents for French New Brunswick is calling on the government to go back to the drawing board with its proposed French learning program.

Consultations were held over the past two weeks in Bathurst, Moncton, Saint John and Fredericton, and over 1,000 New Brunswickers attended.

Executive Director Chris Collins says parents and educators brought up some very important points, including asking why the focus is on changing French immersion when studies have found there are issues with the English prime program and why the government is not looking to add more resources and support a very stressed system.

Collins is hopeful the government will change its mind on the issue and dump the proposed 50/50 model planned for September.

ā€œIā€™m hopeful that the government is going to change its mind on this issue,ā€ Collins adds.
