Home In Northwest Moncton Extensively Damaged By Fire

Fire has extensively damaged a home in Northwest Moncton.

Moncton Fire Acting Platoon Chief James Rooney says the large two-storey single-family home on Timberway Lane was fully engulfed when they arrived at around 11:30 pm last night.

Once they established that all of the residents had evacuated from the home, Rooney says, “We immediately switched to a defensive strategy, which means no firefighters went inside due to safety.”

The residence is in a rural area with no access to hydrants.

Four of five Moncton fire stations responded, along with two tanker trucks from Moncton.

Dieppe Fire was also called in to assist with an additional tanker truck for water.

The Canadian Red Cross says a family of four has been displaced.

A couple and two teenage children are getting help, including emergency lodging and financial aid for purchases like food, clothing and other basics.

A total of 25 firefighters helped to battle the blaze.

Rooney says they quickly got the fire under control, but they remained on the scene for around four hours.

“It was a challenging one to fight due to the lack of hydrants, along with the weather conditions,” he adds.

There’s no word on a cause yet.  The Fire Marshall and RCMP will be on the scene today to investigate.
