PM Announces Health Care Meeting With Premiers

By Allan Dearing Jan 25, 2023 | 6:11 PM

Prime minister Justin Trudeau has invited the premiers to a meeting in Ottawa on February 7.

The federal government wants to reach an agreement on health transfers to the provinces and territories.

“It will be an opportunity to share with them our plans to support the health care systems across the country and hear their priorities for investment,” noted Trudeau.

“We need to start working together concretely to ensure that we’re transparent about how this money is being invested. Canadians need to have confidence that they’ll get the high quality health care they deserve for years to come,” he added.

The announcement came as the federal cabinet wrapped up a three-day retreat in Hamilton, Ontario.

Videos have been widely circulated on social media of Trudeau surrounded by a crowd of angry protestors outside a restaurant in the city on Tuesday night.

In a scrum with media, the prime minister acknowledged everyone has a right to protest but said he did have a warm welcome in the city and one group does not represent Hamilton.
