Moncton Tickets, Tows During First Major Storm

By Allan Dearing Jan 25, 2023 | 6:18 AM

The first major snowstorm of the season led to tickets and tows for some motorists in Moncton.

The bylaw department issued 31 tickets on Sunday and 45 tickets on Monday.

Meantime, there were three requests for towing vehicles on Sunday and 24 tow requests on Monday.

A pilot project this winter allows overnight street parking in Moncton as long as snow and ice clearing operations are not planned.

Since the onus is on residents to learn about any bans, the City has said the best way is to visit monctonalerts.ca.

City spokesperson Isabelle LeBlanc said she understands this is a new system and it takes time for people to adapt.

“However, it is important they do adapt. This was a request by residents who wanted the possibility to park overnight when the weather was clear,” she noted.

“Having said this, if there is no collaboration and it has an impact on service delivery, we may need to look at it again and see if it is sustainable.

Dieppe and Riverview still have their blanket overnight parking bans in place each night this winter from midnight to 7 a.m.
