The Fort Frances Lakers lost their 13th  straight in an 8-2 loss to the Thunder Bay North Stars.

Ryker Watt and Kevin Bonds scored for the Lakers.

The two teams play again in Thunder Bay tonight.

 

Raelle Redford and Hayden Allam each scored twice as the Fort Frances Muskies girls’ hockey team defeated the International Falls Broncos 8-1 at Ice for Kids Arena last night.

The Muskies held leads of 2-0 and 5-0 after two periods.

Kiera Fairington, with the first goal of the game and eventual game-winner, Marlee Bliss, Piper Cross and Blaire Cross had the other Muskies’ goals.

Tirzah Carradice scored the Broncos’ lone goal.

The Fort Frances Muskies court teams swept games played against the Dryden Eagles yesterday.

The senior boys’ basketball team clinched first with a 51-21 win.

The Muskies did the same in junior girls’ volleyball, with a two games to nothing win over the Eagles.

The senior girls won 3 games to one to take over first place, while the junior boys’ basketball team moved into second place in their division with a 36-34 win in overtime.

 

The International Falls Broncos varsity boys basketball team lost 93-29 to Rock Ridge.

The varsity girls’ team lost to Cherry 57-42.The junior team won 69 to 7, with every member of the Broncos scoring at least two points.

 

The action begins today at the Northern Ontario men’s and women’s curling championships in Kenora.

Rinks skipped by Hailey Beaudry from Fort Frances and Stratton’s Jackie McCormick represent our area on the women’s side.

McCormick’s first game is this morning against Sudbury’s Bella Croisier.

Beaudry’s rink opens competition against Thunder Bay’s Krista McCarville in an afternoon draw.

McCormick’s brother, Trevor Bonot skips his Thunder Bay team on the men’s side.

Former Muskie and Confederation College curler Owen Riches is with the Dallas Burgess rink out of Thunder Bay.
