‘La Vieille Maison’ In Meteghan Entered In National Contest

By Kevin Northup Jan 25, 2023 | 12:25 PM

One of Meteghan’s oldest buildings is in a national contest.

‘La Vieille Maison’ has been closed for over 20 years, and is an exact restoration of an Acadian home from the 1700s.

The ‘Next Great Save’ will give 50-thousand dollars to the building with the most votes on February 23rd.

Secretary of the association for the building Dan Robichaud says that money would go a long way.

“Fifty-thousand dollars fixes our little house in Meteghan, and gives us enough to help with the first year of programming. It will also coincide with the World Acadian Congress coming in 2024,” says Robichaud.

Voting is taking place online.

Robichaud says the biggest item that needs done is the roof.

“Generally speaking, the house is quite solid and is nearly a turn-key museum. We just need to put a roof on it and fix the doors and windows.”

He’s calling on all Nova Scotians to cast a vote daily.
